BULLIES DOG ACT

Make no mistake - it's vicious
"Bullies dog ACT

It seems you need a tough skin to work in the ACT's public service, where bullying and harassment complaints continue to increase at an alarming rate. According to a recent State of the Service report, 12 ACT bureaucrats were dismissed in 2011-12 for serious misbehaviour, while another 25 were given a first or final written warning, 29 were counselled and four were demoted.

During the period, 41 public servants were reported for failing in their duty to treat colleagues and the public with respect and courtesy.

A team of seven full-time staff has been enlisted to review 54 historic complaints of bullying at the Canberra Institute of Technology. Some complaints date to the late 1990s."
